Grand Opening of the Heming Welcome Centre at YMCA Wanakita

After nearly two years of construction, YMCA Wanakita held the grand opening of the Heming Welcome Centre on Saturday, April 20 at the overnight camp in Haliburton, Ontario.

The event was attended by dozens of donors, alumni, staff, and volunteers. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony and the revelation of the Donor Wall and Heming Welcome Centre sign.

Back in September 2022 the Longhouse was torn down. Now, the new, brightly lit, wood cabin with a slanting roof includes a reception area and office space, bedrooms for staff and our inclusion campers, and a ramp and accessible washroom. The main meeting room has a kitchenette, a fireplace, and a heated floor. It’s a welcoming space for all our campers and visitors.

Thanks to our many donors who made this dream a reality, and thank you to Barb and Scott Allan whose gift was the spark that brought the Heming Welcome Centre to life.
