Participants will develop the fundamental skills of basketball, including: dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense strategy, to combine their play in full court games. YMCA instructors will educate players about rules and etiquette while encouraging teamwork and fitness competencies needed to play the sport. Participants will be prepared for Basketball Level 2 at the end of this program.

Participants will progress through the fundamentals of indoor hockey, including: stick handling, passing, shooting, defense and offense plays, to combine their play in team games. YMCA Instructors will educate players about rules and etiquette while encouraging teamwork and fitness competencies needed to play the sport. Participants will be prepared for Floor Hockey Level 2 at the end of this program.

Rotate through a different sport each week! YMCA Staff will introduce skills along with a fun game. A focus on teamwork and trying multiple sports in a single session.

This team sport introduces children to indoor t-ball, similar to baseball, in which the ball is hit off a tee rather than pitched.

YMCA Architeers fosters creativity, problem-solving and curiosity through weekly projects and activities that are focused on structures, building and experimenting.

Children will explore their imaginative and creative skills through a variety of arts and crafts, dramatic play, movement, and musical activities. Children will have opportunities to create projects and share with others. New themes and activities are introduced each week. Materials will be provided.

Plan, design and create your art pieces using a new medium each week. Projects will include creations with clay, crocheting, cartooning, jewellery making and more. Participants are invited to showcase their pieces in an end of session family art gala.

Dance is an energizing program that introduces children to the fundamentals of moving to music, and learning progressive steps and basic choreography from professional dance instructors. Ever wonder how things work? Discovery Lab offers young, curious scientists the opportunity to explore new scientific principles each week and experiment through hands-on activities. Materials will be provided.

What is an ecosystem? We're going to explore living organisms and everything they need to survive. We'll examine weather and plants and get a little dirty while doing it. Activities are indoors.

Have you ever wanted to create your own knitted creation? Or learn to crochet? This 8 week program will help participants develop the basic skills to crochet and knit. Participants will go home with their creation at the end of the session.

Join us at LBY for an exclusive new program designed for homeschool families! This initiative combines a fun swim lesson with a dynamic gym session and a creative craft/STEAM activity. Participants will enjoy 75 minutes filled with active games and engaging projects, followed by a 30-minute swim lesson. Dive into learning and fun—membership is required to participate.

Karate is a martial art that combines the use of punches, kicks and defensive techniques. Children build self-confidence, self-defense skills and respect for themselves and others. Through this moving art form they will also build discipline, core stability, agility, balance, flexibility and endurance. Karate Gi (uniform) is not required.

This active program focuses on building a variety of physical literacy skills through group games and activities that get the whole body moving. Participants will also learn to work with their peers and socialize.
Enjoy the use of the YMCA gym and equipment during these open periods when facilitated programs are not running. Open Gym is a great opportunity for young members to practice the skills they are learning in program.
Open Swim is an all-ages leisure swim reserved for members. It’s a great way to be active and have fun together.

Strength & Conditioning Jr. is your child’s introduction to Group Fitness Classes at the YMCA. Classes focus on building gross motor skills, total body conditioning, safety, teamwork and spatial awareness through a series of fun physical activities such as obstacle courses, light weight-bearing, and partner work.

In this small group program (6-8 weeks) qualified YMCA staff will introduce children to the basics of climbing inspiring confidence, social and problem-solving skills. Y-Climbers will make friends, learn leadership skills, play fun games that encourage physical fitness and problem solving, and learn important climbing skills. Each week, participants will focus on skill and fitness development resulting in increased climbing time throughout the session. Don’t forget your water bottle, comfortable gym clothes, and running shoes. Available at Flamborough Family YMCA.

YThrive GROW is designed to give 10 to 12 year olds a safe start into using the Fitness Centre at the YMCA. This program will provide youth with basic foundations in resistance training and cardio training while improving muscle coordination and self-confidence.

Leadership Development at the YMCA helps young people find and use their voice to share their ideas and thoughts on how to build a healthier community. YMCA Staff Leaders empower young leaders to develop valuable lifelong skills, including problem-solving, social skills, teamwork, philanthropy, and peer leadership. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in an annual YMCA leadership conference with other young leaders. Registration is continuous from October 2023 - June 2024.
With enthusiastic, creative staff and the space and facilities to get wet, creative and active, the YMCA is ready to host your next birthday party. All party bookings include:
- 2 hours of party-time (plus 30 minutes for set-up/take down)
- YMCA birthday party invitations to give to party guests
- YMCA Staff Party Host during your party as well as set up, take down and cleaning
- 2 Large Pizzas for guests and bottles of water (families may bring in additional refreshments)
- Pass for a free YMCA visit for each party guest
- Basic room set-up with table cloth and Happy Birthday banner
