What is the Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship?
The Farah Family and the YMCA are inviting youth school groups of all ages in the Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford area to apply for a grant of $500 - $2,500 to support youth-led projects that:
- Encourage the advancement of peace in their community
- Promote non-violence within the family, community, nationally or internationally
- Demonstrate ways to live in peace and harmony in an increasingly diverse society
- Support leadership in global awareness among young people
- Encourage global responsibility and action towards positive change
The initiative should also:
- Promote civic engagement
- Encourage empathy and understanding through communication
- Actively lead and support leadership
- Connect and collaborate through communities by building connections
- Empower and inspire others to create positive personal and social change
The awards are generously funded by the Farah Family Foundation.

2024 Scholarship Recipients
In 2024, the YMCA of Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford awarded the Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship to several community-based school projects that aim to encourage peace, cross-cultural understanding, and civic engagement.
Farah Family Youth Peace Scholarship Recipients:
Community Outreach project to assist Riverview Terrace Retirement Facility and expand its impact to include organizations like St. Andrews Soup for the Soul and Nova Vita.
“North Park Welcomes the World” event, enhanced to include guest speakers, musical entertainment, and a fashion show.
Cultural Appreciation Day to celebrate the diverse cultures within the community.
Tastes of Culture event to honor all ethnicities and their contributions.
BCHS Student Well-Being initiative to promote personal and community well-being through activities and workshops.
Efforts to become the first Catholic Language Friendly School in North America.
Newcomers Breaking Bread Activity Day to foster camaraderie and connections among students.
School and Community Fair, including an Iftar event planned by the Muslim Student Association during Ramadan.
