Spring 2025 Philanthropy Moments

It’s A Comeback 25 Years In The Making
Graham Cubitt hasn’t played hockey since he was 19 years old. That was when he tripped on a breakaway and found himself flying into the boards, smashing his kneecap and any dream he had of playing hockey.
But when asked to play in the first-ever Hamilton/Burlington Hockey Helps the Homeless Tournament, he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to lace-up his skates in support of YMCA programs that prevent homelessness.
Donation Highlights

The power of the first gift
In 2024, 599 people were inspired to make a gift to our YMCA for the first time. While their motivations are varied, their commitment is a beautiful act of trust in support of our mission.

Staff giving
During our holiday campaign, staff were encouraged to sign up for pay roll donations for a chance to win a trip to YMCA Wanakita or a $250 gift card of their choice. Sydney H. was our lucky winner! In 2024, YMCA staff gave over $60,000 in donations.

Beyond The Bell™ Gets A Boost!
The Six Nations Grand River Community Trust has awarded $40,000 to YMCA to continue Beyond the Bell programming in Six Nations communities.

Alumni Help Fund New Centre
A group of alumni called the '78 JCs (Junior Counsellors) are raising money to help fund the building of the Wayne Perkins Leadership Centre at YMCA Wanakita.

$25K For Enabling Access
Enabling Access is how the YMCA makes it possible for everyone to participate no matter their situation or financial circumstance. Thanks to this generous gift from the Joany and Mark Foundation, hundreds of people will have access to Hamilton Downtown Family YMCA programs that ignite a sense of belonging.

Funding New Pathways To Success Program
With a pledge to contribute $150,000 over five years, Charity of Hope and the Sam and Roma Mercanti Foundation are helping the YMCA assess the impact of Alternative Suspension, BE Wise and Enabling Access Programs
