K's Story
Meet K.
Like many 18–30-year-olds, K worries about their future... a lot.
So, when they heard about Y Mind through another community organization, they filled out the form on the website and were soon contacted by the Y Mind team.
Y Mind is a free, seven-week mental wellness program that offers support for those who are experiencing mild to moderate anxiety or stress. Participants learn evidence-based coping skills based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and self-compassion, and connect with peers who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings.
When K started the program, their anxiety made it difficult to focus on anything and could even lead to panic attacks.
During this time, K also experienced the unexpected loss of a close family member. Although it was difficult for them to keep coming to Y Mind sessions, K says they found comfort and stability in having a weekly scheduled group to attend.
“[I would have] borderline lost it if it wasn’t for the program.”
For K, the conversations in the group, the support and kindness of Y staff, and the coping tips from the program went beyond supporting them in managing their anxiety—it was a spark of light to hang onto during a very dark time.
