Turkstra weekly charity barbeque raises funds for YMCA

Every Friday in the summer, Turkstra Lumber Hamilton hosts a charity barbeque in their parking lot. The Angus hamburgers and footlong hotdogs, for just $5, include a drink and your choice of toppings—condiments, pickles, onions, and tomatoes—and all proceeds go to the charity of the week!
The YMCA of Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford is honoured to be Turkstra’s barbeque charity five times this summer. Our first event took place on Friday, May 31, and with a little guidance from Stephan, the assistant store manager, it was a great success!
“We have a few charities that we have every year, but we like to try and support different charities,” he says. “Everybody needs a helping hand.”
The YMCA played music, held signs, and even had a staff member dress up as a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man!
“Today, was fun. A lot of fun,” says Stephan.
“We had fun and raised funds as well as awareness of Our Y,” said Akinyemi, Senior Development Officer at the YMCA.
The YMCA will be back at Turkstra Lumber at 1050 Upper Wellington Street on the following dates:
- Friday, June 7 from 12pm-2pm.
- Friday, July 5 from 12pm-2pm.
- Friday, July 26 from 12pm-2pm.
- Friday, August 2 from 12pm-2pm.
